Designer’ Bio:

Mark Sanders is the Principal of MAS Design — a product design and engineering consultancy established in 1984. He was an early graduate of the Industrial Design Engineering (IDE) course at the Royal College of Art/Imperial College, and has followed the same holistic design principles in business. He is now a visiting tutor on the IDE course and runs MAS Design from a self-built home/office/workshop. MAS design specializes in integrating engineering and industrial design. Its product portfolio includes a wide range of award-winning patented products from kitchen tools to operating tables, industrial valves to folding bicycles.

Working with wireless technology company Kleer, we have helped to develop the worlds first high quality wireless earbuds for MP3 players.The headphones just launched in the US provide better sound quality than Bluetooth but last three times longer due to lower power consumption.The headphones use a duel aerial system to eliminate the drop out problem common with Bluetooth headsets for phones.To allow a first-to-market entry level product the final design used a cable to connect the two ear phones together – this greatly reduced cost as only one IC and battery was needed.

Brothers Tej and Sach Chauhan of Chauhan Studio designed this futuristic phone for Suncorp Communications, fittingly named after famed Italian designer Joe Colombo. They state the design seeks to re-establish the lost relationship between earpiece and mouthpiece in modern telephones. The flash and html versions of Chauhan Studio’s site state both Spring and August of 2008 respectively as the availability date—so I’m unclear about that one. Let’s hope it’s soon. Despite its name this is not a prop from the famous Kubrick flick. Unfortunately, it’s not yet a real product either. Recently presented at the 2008 Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, the concept LCD TV designed by UK based Chauhan Studio focuses on matching sound quality with the [usually] superior image quality offered by current LCD TVs, while also introducing harmony between the design of the object and its surrounding spaces.
